We’re back with another insightful episode of The Social Chameleon Show. This week, I sat down with executive coach and “people expert” Rachel Burr for a raw, funny, and profoundly insightful conversation about personal growth, leadership, and what happens when you step into the uncomfortable “goo” of transformation.
Here’s your episode rundown:
🦋 Face the Fear, Find the Goo
Rachel gets real about leaving her PhD program and the giant psychological leap it took to step off the “safe” path. She shares how true transformation isn't typically a lightning bolt moment—it’s a series of small, courageous clicks that eventually crack the lock wide open. If you’ve ever felt stuck or scared of change, this episode is for you.
✍️ Practical Tools for Tackling Self-Doubt
Rachel opens up about her self-talk in moments of uncertainty, and drops practical exercises for naming and processing fear. From journaling your worries to simply sitting in discomfort, Rachel’s advice is actionable and grounded in her decades of experience (plus, you can grab these exercises for free on her website—details below).
⚡ Imposter Syndrome & Honest Conversations
Do you ever feel like you’re faking it or just waiting for someone to “find you out?” Guess what: even top leaders struggle with impostor syndrome. Rachel reveals the invisible scripts holding us back and how bringing our doubts into the light—whether with a coach, a friend, or even AI—can spark real growth.
💡 The Power of Humor and Human Connection
Rachel and Tyson discuss the vital role humor plays in personal development and forming genuine connections. Transformation is messy, but laughter makes the ride not just bearable, but joyful.
🎧 Listen Now
This episode is packed with wisdom, relatable stories, and plenty of laughs. Perfect for anyone seeking clarity, courage, or just a reminder that being “in the goo” is the most powerful part of becoming legendary.
Sometimes, it’s not failure that holds us back; it’s the fear of stepping into the discomfort of the unknown. As Rachel Burr puts it, “Change happens when fear of the unknown is finally dwarfed by a looming dread of the same.”

Butterfly Goo: The Down and Dirty Truth of Transformation
🦋 Embrace the Mess and Transform
In Butterfly Goo, executive coach Rachel Burr dismantles the idea that transformation is a smooth, pretty glow-up. Instead, she shows just how messy it is, the goo, the chaos, and the soul-scrabble.
Part memoir, part self‑help guide, the book digs into real-life missteps, hilarious misadventures, and the messy breakthroughs that come when you lean into change. It's raw, funny, and—most importantly—authentic, with practical exercises at the end of each chapter to help you step into your own “goo moment” (amazon.com).
Rachel’s core message: You have to go through the goo to grow. The weird, uncomfortable, uncertain middle isn't a pitfall—it’s the metamorphosis itself. And with her guidance, even the muddiest moments become powerful catalysts for growth.

✨ Weekly Challenge ✨
This week, notice when you feel anxiety or any physical or emotional discomfort—basically, any time something shows up for you, whether it’s a feeling in your body or a thought. When that happens, pause for a moment. Instead of pushing it aside, get curious: ask yourself, “What’s going on? What am I experiencing right now?” Spend some time listening to what you’re telling yourself and sit with those feelings, even if they’re uncomfortable (“sit in the goo,” as Rachel puts it).
You don’t have to take any action beyond that, unless you want to. The first goal is to notice and be honest about your self-talk and reactions. If you want to take it further, Rachel says you can also consider: “What’s the conversation you want to have with yourself instead?”
Pause, notice your feelings and thoughts during moments of discomfort, and get curious about them. Listen to your internal dialogue. If you’re ready for more, think about how you’d like that internal conversation to go.
